NOTHING IS REAL . . .

This another one of the highly structured songs on the album, although more in the ways that early Beatles songs were tailored to distinct patterns than in other ways. If one were discovering how to play medium-complexity songs in a garage band, then this might not be such a difficult song to learn, since it spans a precise set of patterns, each of which is flexible in the dual senses of nothing being overly complex and of nearly everything sounding better with generous amounts of reverberation and echo, no matter how good or bad the playing and singing might be at any particular instant.

Yet, there is a bit of subtle complexity in the song, and it appears in the elaborate use of reverberation, echo, and KORG® Triton Studio music workstation synthesized arpeggios to create a spatially energized sonic landscape where sounds move from place to place both as the consequence of hard-panning and time-delay induced frequency changes. And this is one of several songs on the album that explore some of the advanced physics associated with the inner workings of the universe both on tiny and vast scales, an arena where at least on paper it appears that nothing is real in a very tangible way which is not simply a matter of semantics.

When one looks at an empty cup and observes that there is nothing in it, one quite likely is making a surprisingly profound and accurate observation. As with all the songs on the album, "Nothing Is Real" is best enjoyed by listening to it through ear buds on an Apple® iPod®.

[1st Verse]

Ask me, "Why?" . . .
Well, I don't know,
Backward and forward,
Through space and time . . .

I checked the math,
And it's all right,
Day after day,
And night after night . . .

On and on for so long . . .
Nothing is real . . .

[Lead Guitar]

[Bridge]

I checked the math,
And it's all right,
Day after day,
And night after night . . .

On and on for so long . . .
Nothing's real . . .

[2nd Verse]

Ask me, "Why?" . . .
Well, I don't know,
Backward and forward,
Through space and time . . .

I checked the math,
And it's all right,
Day after day,
And night after night . . .

On and on for ever so long . . .
Nothing is real . . .

[Lead Guitar]
